Ensworth High School graduate Kevin McDermott joined the San Francisco 49ers Saturday.
The 49ers parted ways with their longest-tenured player, longsnapper Brian Jennings, who made two Pro Bowls during 13 seasons in San Francisco, for the undrafted rookie.
It was no surprise for the 49ers, who expect to return to the Super Bowl this season.
McDermott played at UCLA as a longsnapper and was one of the top players in the nation at his position in college.
There are only 32 roster positions in the NFL for a longsnapper, making it extremely competitive to obtain a spot.
McDermott was part of the first graduating class of Ensworth in 2008.
His younger brother, Conor, also graduated from Ensworth and is an offensive tackle at UCLA.
