Murfreesboro police have stepped up their efforts to fight crime after a spike in vehicle break-ins.

Police report about a dozen vehicle break-ins at the Overall Street Greenway Trailhead and at Old Fort Park.

Authorities said the thieves are snatching left behind valuables in often times unlocked vehicles during the broad daylight.

News 2 spoke with park goers on Thursday evening who said they are not surprised by the recent string of car burglaries.

“It doesn't surprise me. I would think it would be pretty easy if you are distracted and would think especially if you are watching your kids here you are probably not watching your car,” Murfreesboro resident Sharon Barlett said.

Resident Sharon Ordonez added, “Yesterday for the first time, I've been coming here for months with the grandchildren, yesterday for the first time I saw two patrol cars come in very slowly and I thought whatever is happening, I don't need to be here.”

Anyone with information on the recent crimes is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-893-STOP.
