A barbeque lunch will be held Friday in an effort to raise money for the family of a worker who died after an incident at the Bridgestone tire plant in La Vergne last month.

The benefit for John Meyer's family, which is hosted by the United Steelworkers Union in La Vergne, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 209 Hazelwood Lane.

Each plate costs $8

All of the money raised will benefit Meyer's wife and three children.

“We haven't had anything like this happen in our plant in 30 years,” worker Scott Lansdown said. “So it's been something that we haven't had to deal with in a long time, but we want to try to do everything we can for his family. Emotionally, financially, anything that we can do.”

Meyer died in July, a week after he sustained serious injuries on a tire machine.
