Beech High School running back and University of Tennessee commit Jalen Hurd will miss the rest of the season after injuring his shoulder during Sunday's 42-39 Buccaneers victory over Station Camp High School.
Hurd's mother, Tara Smotherman, told News 2 doctors discovered a torn labrum in his right shoulder Monday.
She said her son will have surgery next month so he's ready to play football next year at UT.
Smotherman told The Tennessean, “They're going to stabilize the shoulder really well now, so we shouldn't have to worry about any more dislocations.”
She continued, “Had this been later in the season, he might have been able to play, but with it being so early, there was no reason to risk re-injury.”
Hurd rushed for 177 yards and scored three touchdowns in Sunday's game, which was nationally televised on ESPN2.
