The group Moms Demand Action (MDA) is setting up lemonade stands across the country this month to bring awareness and attention to gun legislation.

The Tennessee chapter went out on Saturday to pressure U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker to pass a bill that would expand background checks on gun owners.

“Today, we are out making lemonade out of the lemons that congress gave us in April when they failed to pass the Manchin-Toomey bill,” said Melanie Fields, a member of MDA.

The group wanted to meet with the senators in person, but said they did not receive a response to repeated requests.

“I have a child in school and I have friends that have children in school, and I think everyone deserves to be safe,” Fields added.

MDA was created after the Newtown shooting in an effort to build support for common sense gun legislation.
