Sources tell Nashville's News 2 State Representative and Tea Party favorite Joe Carr of Murfreesboro will announce he is challenging Lamar Alexander in the U.S. Senate Republican primary in 2014.
When contacted by phone Monday night, Representative Carr had no comment about a possible challenge to Alexander, who has held the seat since 2002.
Carr, however did say he is scheduled to hold a news conference in Murfreesboro on Tuesday to discuss the future of his 4th District Congressional race against incumbent Scott DesJarlais and Republican challenger State Senator Jim Tracy.
Sources also sat Carr will announce his candidacy on Ralph Bristol's radio show at 7 a.m. on Tuesday on 99.7 WWTN.
The conservative radio show host said Monday on his show that he would have a guest to make an announcement that would change the Tennessee political landscape in 2014.
Several sources said Senator Alexander is aware of Carr's primary challenge.
