The State Board of Education approved a controversial plan to tie teacher licenses to student performance on Friday.

Last week, the Tennessee Education Association voiced their opposition with the change.

Teacher's licenses last for 10 years regardless of student performance, but under the new plan, renewal partially depends on test scores.

After extended discussion Friday, the board delayed implementing the new policy.

The delay is due partly so officials can study the student test score link.
