An 85-year-old year man accused of killing his 30-year-old grandson earlier this week is due in court on Wednesday.

John Watkins was taken into police custody on Monday morning at his southeast Nashville home in connection to the shooting death of Ben Phillips.

Phillips was shot while he was sleeping inside the home just before 6 a.m.

Police said Watkins has since admitted to shooting Phillips.

Watkins stated Phillips was constantly threatening him and his wife, as well as causing problems in the home, and that he does not feel sorry for his actions.

The elderly man's wife was also inside the home at the time of the shooting.

She was not injured.

Watkins is charged with criminal homicide.
