Smyrna police are working to identify the man who stole diamond earrings from a jewelry store last week.
According to police, the suspect entered Mere and Pere's Jewelry store located on Industrial Drive last Wednesday just before 5 p.m.
“Towards the end of his time here, he decided to take a pair of earrings,” said manager James Morrison.
Authorities reported the man shopped in the store and interacted with a store employee for 15 minutes before he was shown a pair of 1.25 carat diamond earrings.
The man grabbed the earrings from the salesperson and fled the scene on foot.
Police said the earrings are valued at $1,250.
The store has a policy not to let customers handle more than one piece of jewelry at a time.
“There's always going to be people who take advantage of every situation,” Morrison said. “Thankfully, this is one of those situations where he didn't get away with more than what was allowed.”
Mere and Pere's is equipped with multiple surveillance cameras.
The suspect is described as a black man in his early to mid-20s that is around five feet, seven inches with a slender build. He has a mustache and an earring in his left ear.
At the time of the crime he was wearing sunglasses and a blue baseball hat with the word “Texas” written in block letters.
Anyone with information on the crime is urged to contact police at 615-459-6644.
