A mother was issued a citation Tuesday morning after her young son was found wandering alone on a road outside of an apartment complex.
Authorities were called to the Village West Apartments on Tennessee Avenue around 8 a.m. after someone found the toddler and called police.
Officers were able to track down the apartment where the child, who is not quite two years old, lived and had a hard time waking up the mother.
Once awake, she was told her child was found wandering, and she allegedly did not believe them and tried to go back to bed.
The mother, 23-year-old Lindsey Wall, was cited for attempted child abuse and resisting arrest.
Police said it appears the child got up while his mom was asleep, unlocked the door and went outside.
The child was given back to his mother. She must surrender to police and be booked into jail at a later date.
