Students at Blackman High School returned to music and cheers on their first day back to class.

Buses began rolling in shortly before 7 a.m. on Monday for the first full day of school following summer break.

Giant letters on the front sidewalk spelled out “Welcome Back” in the schools signature orange, blue, and white, as cheerleaders and band members created a tunnel for incoming students.

This is the fifth year the school has hosted what it calls a “wow rally.”

“Students walk through the tunnel and say, 'Wow,'” explained Principal Gail Vick.

Several students told Nashville's News 2 the rally is an example of what it means to be a Blackman High School student and to be involved. Many said they look to Principal Vick, who leads by example.

Principal Vick responded, “If I don't care about the school, who will?”

Blackman High School is home of the Blaze, with a student body of roughly 2,000.
