Vanderbilt rape case

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – An arraignment date for the former Vanderbilt football players charged with raping a 21-year-old woman in a dorm room in late June has been set.

The arraignment for Brandon Banks, Cory Batey, Jaborian “Tip” McKenzie and Brandon Vandenburg is scheduled for 9 a.m. on August 21.

All four men are charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

Vandenburg is additionally charged with one count of tampering with evidence and one count of unlawful photography.

Batey and Vandenburg remain jailed in Nashville.  McKenzie was released on a $50,000 bond Saturday afternoon.  Banks was released Monday afternoon on a $250,000 bond.

All four men were dismissed from Vanderbilt’s football team in late June for violation of team rules.

Head coach James Franklin previously called it a “privilege, not a right” to be part of Vanderbilt’s football program.
