The study put on by “Honest” tea tested 61 locations throughout the United States.
The company set up unmanned kiosks and offered a full stock of beverages for $1 on the honor system, meaning people simply had to leave a dollar if they chose, thinking no one was looking.
Washington D.C. ranked as the least honest, with only 80% of participants paying for their drink.
The most honest state was Alabama with 100% of participants chocking up a dollar bill.
Tennessee ranked 8th on the list after 98% of those participating paid for their drinks.
The National Honesty Index also ranked people based on gender, physical appearance, and other traits.
It found that women were more honest than men, blondes were more honest than non-blondes, and people in groups were more honest than individuals.
