A mother was arrested Thursday after police found her children alone and screaming outside the family's south Nashville home.
Police responded to the home in the 200 block of Wauford Drive around 6:15 p.m. to find three girls, ages two, five and six, crying and visibly upset.
“He saw some little kids running around over there, up and down the driveway and they were hollering and screaming and everything,” neighbor Bob Morrison Sr. told Nashville's News 2.
They were alone. None were wearing shoes and the two-year-old was only wearing an adult-sized t-shirt.
Officers called the Department of Child Services and both agencies waited until the mother arrived 90 minutes later at 7:40 p.m.
Shenetra Phomphanh, 35, admitted to police that she left the home at 4:30 p.m. to attend a doctor's appointment in Murfreesboro.
Phomphanh added that she did not believe she was going to be gone for such a long period of time.
“I've got two grown kids and a bunch of grandkids and we would never let that happen,” said Morrison.
She was taken into custody and charged with felony child neglect.
