One week ago, Nashville’s News 2 woke up David Cline as he slept outside the box office at LP Field in Nashville.
The die hard Titans fan was the only person who spent the night outside the stadium gates to be first in line to purchase one single-game ticket when they went on sale later that morning.
Reporter Stephanie Langston woke up Cline and it was captured live on Nashville’s News 2 This Morning.
The interview went viral after being picked up Deadspin, eventually ending up all over ESPN.
Admiration of Cline’s passion for the Titans started pouring in, and viewers began to reach out.
One viewer got Cline a second ticket to the Titans game against San Francisco on October 20, the only ticket he waited in line to buy, and the Nashville Predators and Fifth Third Bank gave him several gifts.
Predators’ broadcaster Stu Grimson presented Cline with tickets to see the Predators, a team jersey and a $100 pre-paid credit card.
“We saw your piece. We were so impressed with your dedication to your team; your dedication to your sport; we were just overwhelmed by that,” Grimson told Cline.
He continued, “We want to make you a gift of some Predators tickets to our opening game come early October. We’ve got a jersey in here for you as well and we’ve got a gift card for you also.”
Cline sells a local Nashville newspaper called The Contributor, a paper sold by current and former homeless persons.
He’s been selling the paper on the streets of Nashville for three years, most recently outside the Kroger at the intersection of Gallatin and Greenfield avenues in east Nashville.
When asked how he would spend the pre-paid credit card, Cline said he planned to buy something nice for his wife.
Single game Titans tickets are on sale now. Training camp begins next week.
The Titans host the Washington Redskins to kickoff the preseason Thursday, August 8. The home, regular-season opener is September 22 against San Diego.
