A 40-year-old man approached an officer in east Nashville Thursday night after he was shot while getting into his vehicle.
The shooting occurred in the 600 block of South 10th Street just before 8 p.m.
The gunshot victim, who was shot once in his upper body, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are searching for the gunman who is described as a black male in his 20s with braided or curled hair.
A motive was not immediately known, however police said they do not believe it was a random crime.
