Toddler pulled from Knoxville pool, given CPR

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Knoxville police and the state children's services agents are investigating the near-drowning of a toddler in Knoxville.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reported the 18-month-old boy apparently fell into a swimming pool late Tuesday afternoon. An adult spotted him and pulled him from the pool, initiating CPR. The boy was breathing when first responders arrived.

Knoxville Fire Department Capt. D.J. Corcoran said a suction device was used to pull some remaining water from the boy's lungs and he was taken to East Tennessee Children's Hospital by ambulance.

The homeowner declined to give his name. He said he gave a friend permission to swim in his pool and the friend apparently brought some of his friends, including several children.
