A Shelbyville couple was able to use their cell phone to call for help after their boat capsized in the Duck River Monday afternoon.

According to a report in the Shelbyville Times-Gazette, the incident occurred between Roddy Road and Tyson Foods.

Upon calling for help, the pair, Jason and Melissa Smith, was rescued within 20 minutes.

“We got out in the current and it started pulling us under,” Melissa told the newspaper. “My leg was pinned between the tree and the boat.”

Jason added, “”We'd been in the river about an hour. There were a few sharp currents that didn't give us no problems. And we got to this sharp current and water started shooting over the boat.”

The couple said they had been boating on the Duck River several times prior to Monday's incident.

“We come here every year and have never had a problem before,” Melissa said. “We'd waited a week this year until the water went down.”

No injuries were reported.
