Body of bulldozer operator pulled from pit

UNION CITY, Tenn. (AP) – Divers have recovered the body of a west Tennessee bulldozer operator who was on a machine that fell into a watery pit.

KYTN Radio reported searchers using sonar equipment found the body of 68-year-old Joe D. Trevathan on Thursday afternoon in about 25 feet of murky water.

The pit where Trevathan was operating the machine Wednesday is used by Ford Construction Company as a source for fill material. Officials said the bulldozer toppled backward into the pit.

Obion County Sheriff Jerry Vastbinder said Trevathan had worked for the company for 28 years and was an experienced bulldozer operator.

The victim's body will undergo an autopsy in Memphis.
