CORDOVA, Tenn. (AP) – Three Memphis police officers have been relieved of duty after a domestic altercation involving one of them and witnessed by the others.
WMC-TV in Memphis reported that the officers were taken off duty pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident, which took place Sunday.
According to an affidavit, Officer Steven Saffold slapped his girlfriend, Karen Love, in the face during an argument in Cordova. Officers Ryan Mendoza and Prinshere Hall witnessed the fight.
Mendoza, Hall, and Love went to the domestic violence bureau to give statements.
Saffold was charged with domestic assault. He has been employed by the Memphis Police Department since February 2009 and is a member of the Organized Crime Unit.
Saffold is due in court on the domestic assault charge on July 17.
