The Nashville Predators drafted Seth Jones in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft Sunday in New Jersey.
The Predators picked fourth but still landed the top player in the draft.
Colorado, Florida and Tampa Bay all passed on the six-foot, four-inch, 205-pound defenseman to take a forward.
Jones was widely considered the top prospect in the draft. He was the top-ranked player on the NHL Central Scouting's final list of North American skaters.
He is the son of former NBA forward Popeye Jones. Popeye Jones paced the floor of the Prudential Center and said Seth slept great and was calm in the final hours leading up to the draft.
Jones is expected to keep up for a roster spot in Nashville this season.
The pick was the highest since the Predators first year in the NHL when the selected David Legwand with the second overall pick.
