A 50-year-old mother was taken into police on Sunday night for public intoxication and simple possession of a controlled substance at a Cookeville movie theater.

The Herald Citizen reported while Sherry Moore was searching for money in her purse to pay for her concessions she placed a prescription medicine bottle on the counter.

Concession stand workers discovered Moore had left the medicine bottle on the counter and reported it contained “a green leafy substance believe to be marijuana” and some pills.

Upon their arrival, police located Moore and her 12-year-old son and asked them to step outside.

Moore admitted to police she had been drinking earlier in the day. Officers also discovered an open beer inside her purse.

Moore is charged with public intoxication and simple possession of a controlled substance.

The Department of Children's Services was also notified of the incident.

Moore's son was placed into the care of a relative.

Moore appeared in court on Tuesday where she pled guilty to the charges.

She was given two 11 month and 29 day sentences with all of it suspended except two days.

Moore will also be on a supervised probation for 11 months and 29 days as well as pay $1,258 in fines and court fees.
