A man is in jail after police said he left his child in a hot truck for about an hour while he stole copper wire from a downtown business.
The incident happened on Saturday at Buzzi Unicem, a cement company on 2nd Avenue North.
Police first noticed a red truck parked near the business that matched the description of one connected to past burglaries.
The officer reportedly watched the truck for about an hour before seeing William Conners, 28, exit the business and begin loading his truck with materials.
Officers pulled Conners over after he drove away, finding his 18-month-old son inside.
Police said Conners left the boy inside the hot truck, unattended the entire time.
Authorities also discovered that Conners is a former employee of a contractor that did work for the business and he used keys he didn't return to get inside.
According to investigators, he targeted the business twice last week as well. Conners was able to get inside the business on June 15 and June 17 and stole materials.
Conner was arrested for child neglect and theft.
