A car hit a 9-year-old girl in Bellevue Wednesday night as she was crossing the road.
The accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. near the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Sonya Drive.
Police stated that the girl was struck by a vehicle while crossing a poorly lit section of the roadway and that it is nearly impossible to see a pedestrian in that area.
The driver was a 78-year-old male. Police said that there were no initial signs of impairment.
The girl initially stopped breathing, but was revived on her way to Vanderbilt University Children's Hospital and remains in critical, life-threatening condition.
Authorities are currently trying to positively ID the victim and locate family members.
Both northbound lanes of Old Hickory Boulevard were closed and traffic was rerouted via the turn lane in the center.
No further information was released.
