A 19-year-old swimmer drowned in an area lake on Wednesday.
Ricardo Duenas of Manchester drowned in Center Hill Lake near Sligo Bridge.
Sheriff Patrick Ray said Duenas and another man were swimming in the lake near an old rock quarry on the east side of Sligo Bridge when the 19-year-old decided to swim across the lake to another bank.
He made it about half way when he began to struggle, went underwater and did not resurface.
Swimmers in the area attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful. 911 received the call for help just after 5:30 p.m.
Duenas' body was recovered several hours later.
Members of the TWRA and DeKalb, White, Warren, and Putnam County Rescue Squads participated in the search along with the local Emergency Management Agency, officers of the Sheriff's Department, and DeKalb EMS.
