A man in Murfreesboro has been arrested for possession of a firearm while intoxicated after a traffic stop on Sunday.
According to reports, 35-year-old Dennis Harrell was pulled over on Indian Drive at Church Street around 4 a.m. for disregarding a red light.
Police said Harrell had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and smelled of an intoxicant upon exiting the vehicle.
Harrell allegedly admitted to the officer that he consumed six or seven beers prior to driving.
He was unable to perform field sobriety tests.
Police searched Harrell's vehicle and found a half-empty bottle of whiskey.
They also patted him down and found a loaded handgun.
Harrell was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence, possession of a handgun while intoxicated and violation of open container laws.
He was transported to the Rutherford County Jail for booking.
His bond was set at $3,250 and is due for court on August 1.
