The Nashville Predators signed defenseman Roman Josi to a seven year deal Monday worth $28 million, securing the top line of their defense for the foreseeable future.
Josi skated with captain Shea Weber, who has 13 years left on his contract, last season.
General Manager David Poile said signing Josi was a priority and Josi's growth both in Nashville and in international play proves he is one of the NHL's top young defenseman.
Josi was the MVP of the recent World Championships where he earned a silver medal playing for Switzerland.
The 23-year-old Josi scored 18 points in 48 games for the Predators this season.
He ranked 19th in the NHL in total minutes.
