Mayor Karl Dean and Chief Anderson presided over Monday night's graduation of the largest class of new Nashville police officers in more than 40 years.
Over the past 42 years, this class is second in size only to the group of 96 new officers who graduated from training in December 1971.
The 80 new officers received their badges and took the oath of service.
The ceremony began at 6 p.m. and was held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, located at 7594 Old Hickory Boulevard.
Media representatives and citizens were invited.
The new officers will spend the next five to six months rotating among the seven precincts, riding with and learning from veteran officers.
