CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – Testimony continues in the trial a Hamilton County couple charged in the fatal shooting of their two-year-old daughter.
Samantha and Thomas Wallace are being tried on charges of criminally negligent homicide in the July 2010 death of Camron Wallace.
Investigators said the child died when her five-year-old stepbrother accidentally shot her in the chest with a pistol he took from a drawer of a nightstand in the parents' bedroom.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported defense attorneys told jurors that just days before Camron's death, a group of men knocked on the couple's front door at 2 a.m., and there had been reports of home invasions in the neighborhood.
Chattanooga police Det. James Tate testified Tuesday, telling jurors the neighborhood is considered a low income and high crime location.
