A soccer coach at Harpeth Hall was arrested for rape on Tuesday afternoon.

George “Rico” Laise was taken into police custody on four counts of rape for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a now 17-year-old girl that began in early 2012.

Authorities reported the relationship lasted for one year.

The 46-year-old man was arrested at Harpeth Hall where he was taking part in a summer soccer clinic.

Authorities began an investigation against Laise on May 17 after the police department received information that he had been engaging in sex with the victim who is a student at another Nashville school.

The victim played on a travel soccer team coached by Laise. Police reported during a soccer match in Las Vegas in February 2012 the teen suffered a concussion.

She continued to be affected by the concussion on her flight home. The victim reported to police she sat by Laise and he allegedly engaged her in a conversation of a sexual nature.

The victim also reported to police she began having a sexual relationship with Laise last March and estimates they had intercourse around 50 times.

She added the pair primarily engaged in sexual activities at his residence located at 8269 Poplar Creek Road in Bellevue. He has since moved to Cheatham County.

During their investigation, police identified at least one other teenager who Laise is alleged to have had a prolonged sexual relationship with.

According to police warrants, Laise is charged with two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and two counts of rape involving a victim with a mental incapacity.

Additional charges against Laise are anticipated.

Laise has been coaching various youth soccer teams in the Nashville area since the late 1990s and offered private lessons.

He was also on the coaching staff for the Tennessee Soccer Club. When they heard of Laise's arrest, President John Harvey issued the following statement:

“We have just recently heard about the arrest. We are shocked and dismayed by these events. We will cooperate fully in any investigation and provide any information we have. Of course, this coach's affiliation with the club has been terminated immediately.  We express our deepest sympathies with the family and the victim.”

Anyone with knowledge of inappropriate relationships or behavior between Laise and minors is urged to contact the police department's Sex Crimes Unit at 615-862-7540.
