The Tennessee Department of Transportation is considering a plan to re-locate a section of Donelson Pike that runs through the Nashville International Airport.
The move, TDOT spokesperson Deanna Lambert says, is for safety reasons.
“Right now, if you're coming down Donelson toward I-40, there's a curve along Donelson. We're basically going to take out that curve and slide Donelson east along the side of the runway, on the east side of the airport.”
The estimated cost of the 2 and a half mile project is $70 million.
It would allow the airport to add parking where Donelson is currently located.
Lambert added that the project is in the design phase now, and it may take up to five years for construction to begin.
The project would not require the state to secure any private property because TDOT and the airport already own the land.
