StoneCrest Medical Center in Rutherford County is hosting an open house on Thursday evening to show off the hospital's new state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit.
The new unit houses eight beds and upgraded technology including additional support for critical infants who require ventilator care.
Prior to the new neonatal intensive care unit, which officially opens to patients Monday, the hospital transferred infants who were in need of high level intensive care to Nashville hospitals.
“There's nothing worse than walking into a mom's room and telling her that we're going to have to separate her from her baby. This way they can stay together and continue that bonding and if that baby needs to stay longer, it's a lot closer to their home,” Director of Women's and Children's Services Angela Morgan said.
The public open house is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
StoneCrest is located right off Interstate 24 at the Sam Ridley Parkway exit.
