A 26-year-old Murfreesboro man was charged with abusing a 5-year-old special needs child on Tuesday.
The Daily Journal reported that Austin Drake was arrested one day after a Rutherford County grand jury indicted him on a charge of child abuse.
Police told the newspaper that they received a referral in reference to abuse involving Drake in October of last year.
Through an investigation, Murfreesboro police learned that there multiple cases with the Department of Children Services claiming Drake as the alleged abuser.
The newspaper reported that the DCS officials released the information on the alleged abuse to police.
Drake was booked into the Rutherford County Jail on Tuesday.
He has since been released on $25,000 bond.
He is set to appear in court on May 20.
