There are allegations of someone stealing from the Girl Scouts of Rutherford County, and the organization says one of its own is being investigated.

In a Murfreesboro police incident report filed Tuesday, a Girl Scout executive for the area believes the amount taken is in excess of $30,000 in a period dating back to February 2012.

Rutherford County Girl Scouts regional executive Catherine Fowlkes states in the incident report that, “one of the accounts they hold at Pinnacle Bank has been compromised.”

She goes on to say in the police report that,”one of the volunteers who had access to the Girl Scout accounts, has been taking money out of the account and using it for personal things [writing checks to a personal account from the Girl Scout account].”

Murfreesboro police have not made any arrests in the case, nor any comment beyond saying the case is “under investigation.”

Neither police nor the Girl Scouts have identified the suspected individual.

Megan Seeman, a spokesperson for Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, told Nashville's News 2 the volunteer being investigated is a troop leader from the Rutherford County area.

The group released a statement regarding the incident to Nashville's News 2 that read, “It saddens us to hear of these allegations against one of our own; however, Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee's main focus is building girls of courage, confidence and character, and we assure you that we are cooperating with law enforcement and taking the proper steps to make certain that our girls continue receiving the full Girl Scout Experience.”
