4 doctors disciplined by state board

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A doctor caught with narcotics when arrested for shoplifting has been reprimanded by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners.

The Tennessean reported the board also ordered Dr. Anjalie Narasimhan of Nashville to undergo an evaluation for substance abuse, put her under a monitoring program and fined her $1,000.

The recent decision came more than a year after Narasimhan pleaded guilty in court to theft under $500 for the incident at Cool Springs Galleria in Franklin. Investigators said she was carrying pain medication and a stimulant, for which she did not have prescriptions.

The board also reprimanded Dr. James C. Gekas of Brentwood, Dr. James M. Bachstein of Lebanon and accepted the license retirement of Dr. Robert T. Cochran of Nashville.
