LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – A soldier charged with murder in the shooting of a civilian employee at Kentucky's Fort Knox has been ordered tried in military court.

Marquinta E. Jacobs made his initial appearance in federal court Friday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge H. Brent Brennenstuhl ordered him bound over to a military tribunal for all further proceedings.

The FBI says in a court filing that Jacobs fired a .45-caliber handgun at the victim, “striking him several times” outside the Human Resources Command building on the military post on Wednesday. The shooting prompted a brief lockdown at the post, about an hour southwest of Louisville.

Army investigators arrested Jacobs Thursday in Portland, Tenn., where his mother lives.

The person killed was an employee of the command, which handles personnel actions for soldiers. The person's name has not been released.
