Officers at Cane Ridge High School arrested a 17-year-old student for having a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol in his car Monday morning.
Police reported the high school freshman was initially pulled out of class by an assistant principal after he came into the building smelling of marijuana.
An administrative search was conducted on the student and his vehicle.
Officials said the gun was located in a pocket at the rear of the driver's seat.
The student, whose identity was not released, claimed he did not know the gun was in the vehicle.
No additional information was released.
