Drivers in the new roundabout at 8th Avenue and Korean Veterans Boulevard should be careful to watch where they change lanes.

In the round about there are sections where the white lines are solid. In those areas drivers are not allowed to change lanes.

In other parts the line is broken. In those areas drivers can change lanes.

Motorist Hunter Kelly learned the hard way on Wednesday.

Metro police ticketed him for changing lanes to exit the roundabout over a solid white line.

“I wasn't really sure why I was being pulled over,” Kelly said. “I have been through this roundabout at least 10 to 20 times and I felt like I had a good handle on it.”

He thought the roundabout worked like the one at Division Street and 16th Avenue North around the Musica statue.

“I work on Music Row and I am there all the time,” he said. “With that one you have to just go in there and get it done.”

He continued, “You have got to weave in and out of traffic as it comes.”

The difference at that roundabout is there are no marked lanes in the actual roundabout.

Kelly hopes the city puts up more descriptive signs to explain how the roundabout works, not just for people who live in Nashville, but also for people visiting from out of town.

“I can't imagine them trying to navigate this and not getting tickets,” he said. “There needs to be some detailed signs to guide people along the way.”

Kelly plans to pay his ticket and take it as a lesson learned. He hopes others will learn from his ticket before they get one of their own.

Metro Nashville Police did not comment on Kelly's citation or the roundabout.
