A man was arrested and charged with several crimes Tuesday night after allegedly driving drunk and hitting another car head-on while his child was with him.
Police responded to a call around 10:15 p.m. to the area of Liberty Pike near Carothers Parkway in Franklin.
Authorities reported that 37-year-old Joseph Harwell was under the influence of alcohol when he struck another vehicle head-on.
Harwell's 7-year-old child was in the vehicle with him, and was unrestrained.
The child was taken to an area hospital where she is in stable condition from her injuries.
Harwell and the other driver were also taken to area hospitals where they were treated and released for minor injuries.
Harwell, now free on $7,500 bond, will appear in court on April 4.
His charges are: DUI, violation of child restraint laws, reckless endangerment, failure to maintain lane of travel and failure to report an injury crash.
Police said that having a child in his vehicle at the time of a DUI arrest enhances Harwell's sentencing to include a minimum of 30 days in jail and $1,000 minimum fine if convicted.
