MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) – Former Tennessee Titan Erron Kinney has been selected as Mt. Juliet’s new fire chief.
Kinney, who is currently Williamson County’s Director of Fire and Rescue, told Nashville’s News 2 he received the call last week notifying him he had been chosen to head up the city’s first fire department since 1986.
He served as a volunteer firefighter in Williamson County for years before receiving the honor of becoming chief.
“To me there’s nothing better. It’s a great feeling to serve the community and be able to serve your fellow man, especially in the worst of times and anything you can do to make it better. It feels good to do that,” he explained.
Despite playing professional football, Kinney said it has always been a lifelong dream to become a fireman.
“My dad and I had the scanner and we’d listen to calls and things like that. No different than my dad and I going to games, we’d to emergencies, you know if there was a fire in the neighborhood or in town we would go,” he recalled.
The first of Mt. Juliet’s two new stations will be built on Belinda Parkway.
Kinney, who played tight end for the Titans from 2000 to 2006, is expected to start his new position in upcoming weeks.
Officials hope to have the new fire station up and running by July.
