The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said the woman who was found dead near an old rock quarry in Coffee County over the weekend was shot in the chest.
The discovery was made early Saturday afternoon by a man, his girlfriend and daughters in Summitville.
“What am I looking at, I had to get away from it, it pulled all the life out of me because I could almost hear her screaming,” Jerry Allen previously told Nashville's News 2. “It was a bad scene.”
In addition to being shot, the victim who has been identified as Connie Brown, had been badly burned.
Investigators said they believe Brown, 51, was shot and killed prior to being dumped near Summitville Road.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
