The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, alongside the Shelbyville Police Department charged a man over the weekend for a foiled murder-for-hire scheme.
According to authorities, David Claxton solicited another individual to kill his wife, Vickie Claxton and prospective business partner Johnny Overstreet.
During their investigation, the TBI said Claxton attempted to hire someone to kill Overstreet, 52, after he had arranged a business deal involving a large sum of money. Claxton planned to keep the money for himself.
Authorities said Claxton also wanted to have his wife killed so he could collect her life insurance money.
Claxton, 59, is charged with attempted first degree murder and solicitation of first degree murder.
He was booked into the Bedford County jail without bond early Sunday morning.
He is scheduled to appear in court on March 26.
