A Middle Tennessee woman met her birth mother and sister for the first time in a tearful reunion at Nashville International Airport on Wednesday.
Melva Smith, 51, has been searching for her birth mother for the last several decades.
Last month, Smith found her sister through an adoption page on Facebook.
“I always said that if I ever found them, I didn't want to meet them unless they wanted to meet me and they do,” Melva Smith told Nashville's News 2.
She never thought she would have an opportunity to meet her birth mother, who is now in her seventies.
“I had my papers that told me I had an older sister but I never imagined that my mother would still be alive. To have her alive is just unreal, it's amazing,” Smith said.
“Every day, all the time I was always wondering, is she happy, that was the main thing I always wondered, God I hope she's happy,” Geraldine Foster, Smith's mother said.
Smith's birth mother and sister flew to Nashville from Southern California for a two week reunion trip.
Smith also learned she has a biological brother. She has yet to make contact with him.
