KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Knoxville woman who put a message in a bottle while sailing three years ago says it was found last month near Bordeaux, France.

Kimberly Estep tossed the note into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of the Bahamas. She included her email address and phone number with a request to get in touch and let her know where the note was found.

Estep told the Knoxville News Sentinel her friends laughed at her, but after a 4,000 mile journey, the note was found by Daniel Sempiana.

Sempiana in an email said that when he called Estep, speaking broken English with a French accent, she thought it was a joke. Then she was elated. Since then, they have continued to correspond by email and are now friends.
