A Clarksville man was taken into police custody after he attempted to assault a store employee with a pressure washer.
The incident involving Thomas Birdsall occurred on Wednesday morning at the Sudden Service Station located at 2699 Madison Street.
According to police the 61-year-old man became upset after the clerk threw away his receipt to a ball cap he had purchased.
As the clerk retrieved the receipt from the trash can, Birdsall became irate and began cussing at store employees.
After being asked to leave the property by the store's manager, Birdsall first refused before walking out of the store to his pickup truck.
Once at his vehicle he grabbed a pressure washer from a trailer and waved it at a store employee who had walked outside to see if he had left the property.
The employee ran back inside the store, locking the door.
Birdsall then began pressure washing the store's sidewalk and front door area with a high pressure water stream before he fled the scene.
He was taken into custody a short time later.
Store employees reported to police Birdsall has harassed them and caused problems at the business for several years.
Birdsall is charged with assault among others. He has been released on a $1,500 bond.
In July 2012 he was arrested for attempting to run over a teenager in a Walmart parking lot.
