About a year ago, a local surgeon performed a new cataract surgery on country legend Charlie Daniels and allowed him to see without glasses for the first time since second grade.
“You take someone like me, I have been wearing glasses since I was in the second grade and I am 76 years old,” Daniels said.
Renowned Nashville eye surgeon Dr. Ming Wang is the first cataract surgeon in the state to introduce Smart Eye Surgery.
Instead of waiting weeks, the new technique allows surgeons to customize treatment as needed, immediately after the cataract has been removed.
Daniels had the surgery nearly a year ago.
“I could not see anything. I could not read. Now I can read my Bible. I have a small print Bible, I can actually read it with my naked eye,” he said.
According to Daniels, the surgery doesn't involve any pain. After a short bout of blurred vision and a few days of needing to use eye drops, everything cleared up.
“The first thing you know, you are walking around looking at things with no glasses on, and that is pretty miraculous to me,” he said.
Daniels also told Nashville's News 2 that his wife is having the same procedure next week.
