Vigil held for east Nashville hit-and-run victim

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A vigil was held Tuesday night in honor of a 32-year-old woman who was found dead in the roadway just blocks from her home last week.

Livia Smith’s body was discovered by a motorist just after 5 a.m. last Wednesday morning on Barclay Drive.

Smith sustained scrapes to her arms and legs, as well as head trauma.

A vigil in Smith’s honor began at 7 p.m. at the location where her body was found.

Friends, family, neighbors and even strangers gathered to pay their respect with candles, flowers and a simple white cross mark.

While Smith’s family and the tight knit east Nashville community are still grieving their loss and celebrating her life, they are pleading with the person responsible to come forward.

Family members told Nashville’s News 2 Smith’s death seems suspicious.

The 32-year-old was last seen leaving a Nashville bar in a cab.

“We’re not getting any answers as time unfolds. It just appears to look like more than a hit and run,” said Ian Struthers, Smith’s younger brother.

Smith was last seen leaving 3 Crow Bar Tuesday night when she got into a cab alone. A friend walked the young woman to the cab, however did not get a good look at the driver.

Metro police believe the cab was a yellow van, but so far, authorities have not been able to identify the cab driver, leaving the family frustrated and searching for answers.

“I want whoever was responsible, whether it be the cab driver, whether it be someone driving by in a vehicle, where it be anybody, anybody involved in the last moment’s of my sister’s life, to come forward and speak up,” said Struthers.

When Nashville’s News 2 reached out to Yellow Cab regarding the investigation, they merely said they had no comment.

Metro police said there is no update and the department’s traffic unit is leading the investigation.
