Rutherford County officials reported that a fire killed a person Sunday morning.
Two other residents escaped the burning house early on Rehobath Road in College Grove, according to Sheriff Robert Arnold.
Cpl. Ryan Huggins reported the victim was identified as Jane Marlin, 69, who lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Marvin Tomberlain
Officials said Sheriff's deputies and volunteer firefighters from Almaville and Rutherford County Fire and Rescue responded to the call at about 12:30 a.m. where they found the body of the resident.
Police said the Tomberlains tried to rescue Marlin but were unable to because of the heavy smoke and flames.
Firefighters knocked down the flames and found her body in a bedroom.
The fire destroyed the house. Loss to the home and personal property total was estimated at $400,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
