NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Livia Smith’s mother, brother and best friend are still trying to come to terms with what happened early Wednesday morning along a quiet residential street.
The vibrant 32-year-old’s life was cut short by what investigators believe to be a hit-and-run on Barclay Drive in east Nashville.
Metro police said Smith was last seen leaving an east Nashville bar and believe the cab driver dropped her off a few blocks away from her home on Barclay Drive.
The family said they remain hopeful the person responsible for their loved one’s death will come forward.
“We’re desperate,” Livia’s younger brother, Ian Struthers told Nashville’s News 2. “We want to see the person who is responsible for this, held responsible. I want to know. She took a cab home, and I want that cab driver to come forward and let us know what’s going on.”
“This is very suspicious,” said Struthers. “There is reason to believe this is more than a hit-and- run.”
Struthers said his sister was well know in the community and her career in Music City was flourishing.
“She was a very, very talented makeup artist, and had not only a successful career at Chanel at Dillard’s, but a very successful freelance career where she had the opportunity to work with some very high profile clients,” he said.
Alex Thorne, Livia’s best friend, told News 2 outrage over Livia’s death runs deep in their community, and she hopes the city starts paying attention.
“If they can’t afford the sidewalks, they can afford speed bumps or something to slow people down,” said Thorne. “It’s just ridiculous how fast people go on this road or other residential roads.”
Struthers added, “It’s just sad that she’s gone and I don’t have my best friend anymore.”
A candle light vigil is planned for Tuesday, February 26 at 7 p.m. on Barclay Drive where Smith was killed.
Anyone with information regarding Smith’s death or the identity of the cab driver, who was driving a yellow van, is urged to contact the Emergency Communications Center with Metro Police at 615-862-8600.
