An eighth grade student from Holy Rosary Academy in Nashville is heading to the Tennessee Regional Spelling Bee in March.

Nisha Monteiro won the Davidson County Spelling Bee Tuesday.

If she wins the regional competition, she will then head to the national competition in Washington, D.C.

Monteiro told Nashville's News 2 she studied hard, took many practice tests and read a lot.

Her parents said they're very proud of her.

Saxton Kidder from H.G. Hill Middle School came in second place.
